Come garden with us!
Our Community Garden is located at 1053 East 8th Street, just half a block east of Park Avenue and next to the UA Greenhouses. Our current membership is a mix of neighborhood residents, both old and young, UA student staff and faculty, and even some gardening enthusiasts from outside the immediate community.
Members rent individual plots measuring about 3’ x 20’ on either an annual or semi-annual basis. Dues, which basically cover our bills (primarily water), repairs and maintenance, are $150 per year, or $75 for the seven cool season months from October through April 30, and/or $75 for the five hot season months from May 1 through September 30. We charge more for hot season gardening because our water bills are higher then, but members are welcome to opt out of warm season gardening.
We currently have a number of empty plots and are now inviting new gardeners. Garden plots have been excavated, amended with organic matter and set up with automatic drip irrigation so you do not need to come daily to water your plot. We also have a collection of garden tools that you may use. No gardening experience is required; we will be happy to share our knowledge and experience to help you learn how to grow organic vegetables in the desert. (First tip: Winter gardening in Tucson is much easier, so beginners might want to start gardening in October).
If you are interested in renting a plot, contact RHNAgarden@gmail.com for an application.
